Luther on studying the Bible

I just read an excellent quote by Martin Luther on how we should approach the Bible when we are attempting to understand a topic: “First I shake the whole tree, that the ripest may fall. Then I climb the tree and shake each limb, and then each branch and then each twig, and then I look under each leaf”

May we all approach the Word with this attitude not being willing to settle for that small harvest you get from only shaking the tree.
